About this tour
Hanle lies on the Changthang plateau at about 4,500 metres, close to the Chinese border and reached on an inner-line permit. The Indian Astronomical Observatory stands on Mount Saraswati above the village.
In 2022 the surrounding area was notified as the Hanle Dark Sky Reserve, the first in India, on account of how little light reaches it.
